Monstera 'Burle Marx Flame' is a unique plant, named for the shape of its leaves and Roberto Burle Marx, the famous landscape architect and plant collector who owned the original specimen. The most remarkable feature of this plant is its leaves, which start out teardrop-shaped and resemble dancing flames when mature. Additionally, its leaves are so firm that they can appear as if they were made of cardboard. With the spaces between its leaf sheaths, its leaves resemble a ribcage.
